| Profile |
The Hon. Rene Velarde anchors his idea of Public Service to the overriding need for a sustained and comprehensive approach to the issues confronting the less fortunate in our society. This is a byproduct of his principle in life: That every individual deserves Quality Life, and that the dignity of life should never be compromised. Velarde realizes that the halls of Congress are powerful venues, wherein the wheels of legislation are effective mechanisms to benefit the marginalized. After all, BUHAY, the party that he represents takes on an advocacy for the unborn, the aged, the sick, the disabled, and other members of society who otherwise cannot: have the capacity to protect themselves alone.
Velarde, 37, graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Business Administration. Married with three children, Velarde was Executive Director of the Velarde family's real estate firm, Amvel Land Dev. Corp., and of Delta Broadcasting System, where he started as a broadcaster, then eventually managed it.
His business background has helped developed a more rounded approach to the issues that confront him. To some, it is an unusual combination: Business and Politics. Velarde defines it in another yet more correct way: Business Skills and Public Service. In his own words, "I saw that people in public service could make the biggest impact in solving poverty. Plus my business background provided me with leadership qualities required by public service.
Hon. Velarde started his congressional stint on July 16, 2003, when BUHAY Party List was formally proclaimed. To date, he remains steadfast on his commitment to the promotion and protection of the life of every individual, the raison d'etre of BUHAY. The Hon. Rene Velarde and BUHAY continue to advance these thrusts through legislative participation and immersion in programs that prioritize pro-life and grassroots related campaigns. |
